 The Pregnancy Card Test is a rapid one-step assay used to detect human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine specimens, indicating pregnancy. It detects human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine specimens, indicating pregnancy. 

 
Human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone secreted by the developing placenta shortly after fertilization. hCG can be detected as early as a week after conception. At the first missed menstrual period, serum hCG levels reach 100 mlU/ml, with peak levels of 100,000 to 200,000 mlU/ml observed at the end of the first trimester. The presence of hCG soon after conception and its increase in concentration during early gestational growth make it ideal to detect pregnancy early-on.

The PREGCARD is a rapid test to detect hCG at levels as low as 25mIU/ml in urine specimens as an early indicator of pregnancy.  Elevated hCG levels comparable to those in early pregnancy may also be associated with other situations such as hydatichiform mole and choriocarcinoma. 

 

The Pregnancy Card is based on a two-site sandwich immunoassay to see if there is hCG in urine. In performing this test, the patient urine specimen is allowed to react with the colored conjugate which was pre-dried on the strip. The mixture moves in an upward direction on the strip. In a positive result, two pink bands will be visible, on the Test Region and the Control Region. In a negative result, only one pink band is visible at the Control Region.
